Tony Meléndez
Tony Meléndez (born January 9, 1962, in Rivas, Nicaragua) is a Nicaraguan American guitar player, composer and singer and songwriter who was born without arms. His mother took Thalidomide while pregnant, which caused his disability. Meléndez has learned to play the guitar with his feet.[1]

Career
Meléndez began playing and singing in the Los Angeles area in 1985.[1] OnSeptember 15, 1987 Meléndez sang Never Be the Same while playing the guitar with his feet in a special performance for Pope John Paul II. Visibly moved, the Pope descended from his chair and embraced Meléndez. The Pope told Meléndez, “My wish for you is that you continue to give hope to others and continue in what you are doing”, which inspired him.[2]
As of 2005[update], his band, Tony Meléndezand the Toe Jam Band, has a busy concert schedule. Meléndez gives motivational talks and has written a book. He campaigns actively for the pro-life cause.
Meléndez now resides in Branson, Missouri with his wife, Lynn.[3]
Tony is well known around the world for his abilities. He inspires many people across the nation.
Awards and recognition
Meléndez has won Unity Awards Male Vocalist of theYear UCMVA in 2000, 2002, 2004 and in 2002 took Artist of the year. He received the Branson Entertainment Award for Best New Artist in 1999, the “Inspirational Hero Award from the NFL Alumni Association at the Super Bowl XXIII and has received special commendations from the State of California for his work with young people and from President Reagan, regarding Tony “as a positive role model forAmerica”.

Pedro Moreno

Insurgente mexicano. nació en Lagos, hoy Lagos de Moreno en su honor, en el estado de Jalisco en 1775; murió en 1817.
Nació en la hacienda de La Daga, jurisdicción de Lagos (hoy de Moreno, en el estado deJalisco). Estudió en el Seminario de Guadalajara; a fines del siglo XVIII regresó a su tierra natal y se dedicó al comercio.
Hacendado progresista, casado con Doña Rita Pérez, desenvolvió actividades en pro de la independencia mexicana. Moreno entró en relaciones con los caudillos insurgentes, a los que auxiliaba. Sospechoso a los ojos de las autoridades españolas, vigilado y amenazado de prisión,se marchó a su hacienda La Sauceda. Ahí organizó una partida de campesinos, con los que se dedicó a combatir a las fuerzas realistas.[2] Formó grupos guerrilleros junto con su familia, trabajadores de sus tierras y otras cientos de familias, quienes lucharon a favor de la emancipación mexicana, uniéndose a los combatientes en la Sierra.[
Proveniente de una familia de hacendados, se incorporó almovimiento insurgente recién empezada la lucha, en 1814, ya dirigía su propio destacamento en contra del ejército realista.
Combatió en la zona del Bajío, en el año de 1817 se incorporó al batallón de Francisco Xavier Mina, acaudalado español que luchaba a favor de la independencia de la Nueva España a la corona española.
En una batalla contra las tropas realistas, las tropas comandadas porMina, teniendo a Moreno como lugarteniente, fueron aniquiladas, Mina fue hecho preso y Pedro Moreno murió en el combate, el 27 de octubre de 1817.
Es considerado como uno de los más grandes insurgentes jaliscienses, y en su honor, por Decreto 207, el 9 de abril de 1829 se rebautizó a la localidad de Villa de Santa María de los Lagos, como Lagos de Moreno.
